Our client was a lawful visitor to a petrol station in Leytonstone, London. After filling up her car, our client was walking across the forecourt to make her payment. As she did so, she slipped and fell as a result of a fuel spillage on the forecourt that had not been adequately cleaned up. As a result of the fall, out client sustained soft tissues injuries to her lower back and coccyx.
A negotiated settlement was reached with the petrol station’s insurers and our client received damages by way of compensation for her personal injuries and financial losses in the sum of £7500. If you are an occupier, not necessarily the owner, and you invite people onto your premises, you have a legal duty to take all reasonable steps to ensure the person is safe from defects and dangers whilst on the premises.
