Mr A from Leeds was working as fruit peeler on a production line. The task of peeling fruit involved using a large knife in his right hand and wearing a protective glove on the other.
To keep the knife cutting smoothly Mr A was required to sharpen the knife using a steel. However when using the steel the knife slipped and cut through the protective glove causing a laceration to his hand.
Mr A’s employers admitted liability for the accident due to the fact he had not been trained in sharpening the knife and the protective glove was used by a previous employee and inadequate for the task.
Mr A was awarded over £4500.00 in compensation for his injury.
