Our client was a tenant in a property owned by a Housing Association in Basingstoke, Hampshire. As part of a maintenance program, the bath taps in the property were replaced by the Housing Association’s employee or contractor. As our client was using the bath for the first time, she attempted to turn off the hot tap whereupon the tap came off in her hand causing hot water to be sprayed directly onto her. As a result, our client sustained nasty burn injuries to her legs, stomach and chest. Liability was accepted by the Housing Association’s insurers on the basis of the defective workmanship and our client received just over £6000 in damages by way of compensation for personal injuries and financial losses.
