The nominee is James Lowley the ICT Technician at Hayward Baker.
Hayward Baker Solicitors Rising Star
Hayward Baker Solicitors ICT manager Rob Tonks was set a mandate by the partners and firm’s management team. That mandate was to develop an IcT infrastructure to increase efficiency and thereby deliver a first class service to clients at a stressful time in their life, but also keeping operating costs to a minimum, keeping abreast of the latest ICT technology, and utilising the same to fit in with our firm’s requirements. In addition he was tasked to take over, redesign and develop the firm’s website, paying particular attention to optimising the whole site for Search Engine Optimisation (S.E.O).
Rob Tonks had previously worked as a paralegal and an ICT Technician/Manager under one job title within Hayward Baker Solicitors. He worked in this dual role for 6 years, however as the firm has grown significantly over the past years Rob is now solely employed as our ICT Manager.
Working as a Paralegal Rob fully understood the business needs of the Firm and by working closely with, and listening to the File Handlers, he has by utilising ICT technology and our case management system (Proclaim by Eclipse legal services in Bradford) developed a practical, efficient and stable system which is not only good for the firm but for our client’s. Having an interest in web design and functionality Rob taught himself XHTML, CSS and enough PHP programming to take on the task of redeveloping and redesigning the website.
Not only has the firm has grown considerably in recent years but with it so has Rob’s roles and responsibility. Therefore the time had come where Rob desperately required an assistant to help achieve his goals if we were continue to move forward. This person t not only had to have extremely good ICT skills but also needed to be bright enthusiastic and able to work unsupervised.
The person that was found to be perfect for this role was a young 21 year old called James Lowley. James is a university student currently studying computing. He already has bought in a refreshing array of ideas and skills. Working under Rob’s guidance he has developed a practical, efficient and friendly approach to his work. In addition he has bought in much needed programming skills which he has used to help Rob develop the firm’s website.
In addition James has helped redevelop the firm’s Intranet so that it is not only a great means of communication for staff but it also allows interaction by the users and connects to our case management system. The intranet also incorporates the support database again mainly thanks to James programming skills.
I recommend James Lowley for the award of Rising Star for his technical achievements, his loyalty, cheerfulness, maturity beyond his years, his dedication to the firm and our client’s, whilst still only being very young and in his first real job.
We have recently offered James full time employment once he has completed his university degree. And as he has accepted we look forward to working with him on a full time basis in the near future.
