A Spanish actress who fell over in Jeremy Irons’ hotel room, breaking her pelvis and wrist, has been awarded GBP 39,000 in injury compensation.
Loles Leon, 57, met Mr Irons on the TV show Vertigo and went to the five-star Santo Mauro in Madrid with him for a drink in October 1999, the London Evening Standard reports.
However, the lights in Mr Irons’ suite were not working and Ms Leon fell down 18 steps, suffering severe injuries.
She told a Spanish newspaper: "There was a staircase, I went to turn the light on and I fell. Everyone was screaming.
"I could have been killed. I lost several jobs, I still see the physiotherapist and I have never fully recovered."
It follows reports in the Argus that injury compensation lawyers are predicting a flurry of claims to local authorities over falls caused the recent icy weather.
