Asda is denying liability for damage caused to vehicles by its new traffic-calming measures in Bideford, although it may yet face a number of car accident compensation claims.
The new measures, which were installed on Clovelly Road over the summer, have caused damage to the wheels, tyres, bumpers and bodywork of cars, the North Devon Journal reports.
Local garage operator Tim Blight said his business has seen two-to-three people per week with vehicle damage as a result of the roadworks.
Town councillors have said that the scheme was considered safe and any car accident compensation claims will be passed on to Asda’s insurance customers.
However, councillor Simon Inch told the paper: "I am disappointed. This road is dangerous.
"I am a pretty confident driver but I am dodging vehicles and braking hard."
It follows reports in the Essex Echo that a motorcyclist badly hurt in a car crash has launched an injury compensation claim for GBP 250,000.
