British patients seek compensation for faulty knee replacements

British patients are seeking injury compensation after replacement knee joints they were given damaged their health.

The prosthetic knee replacements caused the patients to develop cysts, inflammation and tissue damage, the Adelaide Advertiser reports.

In some cases, some of the replacements had to be removed as the damage being caused was so bad.

Although the procedures took place in Australia, the compensation claims are to go through the UK courts, where personal injury compensation is higher.

One patient told the newspaper that biopsies found particles of a medical material embedded in his tissue.

"Six months after my knee replacement operation I started to suffer from painful swelling and cysts around the knee," he said.

Earlier this month, a journalist was awarded a substantial sum by the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong ten years after his wife died.

He claimed that, while she was in hospital, his wife was racially discriminated against, which led to her death.
