Brothers fined GBP 13k after man’s skull crushed at work

Two brothers have been fined a total of GBP 13,000 over an accident at work which saw a man’s skull being crushed.

Alan Hind, from Corrie Common near Lockerbie, fell six metres onto a concrete floor when he was helping to demolish an industrial building in Carlisle.

The accident has permanently damaged the 28-year-old’s sight, hearing and personality.

Robert Murray was in overall control of the project and his brother, Eric, was in charge of dismantling the building that Mr Hind was working on.

“Unfortunately neither Robert nor Eric Murray took the necessary safety precautions and Mr Hind suffered horrific injuries as a consequence,” said David Charnock, Health and Safety Executive construction inspector in Cumbria.

Last week, a construction firm was fined after one of its employees’ legs was crushed in an accident at work.

John Wainwright & Co Ltd of Moons Hill Quarry, Mendip Road, Stoke St Michael, Radstock, was ordered to pay GBP 10,000.
