Care home told to pay GBP 4,200 in injury compensation

A care home in Wales has been landed with a GBP 4,200 injury compensation bill after an elderly resident fell became entangled in bed railings and broke her hip.

Ellen Clewarth, 92, suffered a fracture while trying to leave her bed at Aston Hall Care Home in Hawarden.

An investigation found that the care home has no system in place to manage her bed railings, which had been installed incorrectly, while employees had also not received adequate training in the correct use of them.

The railings should have been arranged with the prior approval of a competent person such as a district nurse, it was revealed.

Aston Hall Care Home has been fined GBP 6,000 in addition to GBP 1,069 prosecution costs and GBP 4,200 injury compensation payment to Ms Clewarth.

It follows news that a family has won a GBP 4.46 million injury compensation claim against Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust after their child was born with cerebral palsy.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19422731-ADNFCR
