A construction company has become the subject of a massive injury compensation claim after an employee suffered severe injuries on-site.
Worker Iain Cowan was digging a trench for the construction of a motorway bridge in 2006 when he was struck by the arm of an excavator, Building.co.uk reports.
He was knocked into the trench, suffering a fractured spine, a chest injury and a cut to his right leg.
Additionally, it is believed that the worker operating the excavator was insufficiently trained and that contractor Vinci Construction UK had ignored previous warnings about his poor performance.
Since the accident Mr Cowan has been unable to return to work and he has now launched an injury compensation claim of GBP250,000 against Vinci Construction UK.
A Health and Safety Executive safety awareness day is due to take place in Stoke-on Trent in May, in an effort to reduce the high number of work injuries in the construction industry.
