Council pays ‘substantial’ injury compensation

A substantial injury compensation sum has been paid out by Camden Council following a woman’s two-year court battle.

Writer Susie Green caught her foot in an open manhole that had been disguised by leaves in October 2006, the Camden New Journal reports.

She was left with severe spinal injuries causing a frozen spine and pelvis, which hampered her ability to walk.

Furthermore, the accident occurred one month after an official council inspection declared the street to be safe.

"I had offered to settle but they refused and took it all the way to court at great expense," Ms Green told the paper.

She added: "They were trying to prove that it was contributory negligence, that is was my fault for not seeing the manhole."

The case follows a report in the Bury Times that claims a father is calling for Bury Council to pay compensation after his teenage son was killed on an unsafe road.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19198866-ADNFCR
