A farm worker from Derbyshire has been fined after he ran over his employer in a tractor.
John Peter Metcalfe was prosecuted under the Health and Safety at Work Act in an incident that left 73-year-old Edward Arthur Fox dead.
Mr Metcalfe, who was fined GBP 1,000, had previously received warnings about his tractor driving speed, which could have easily resulted in an injury claim on an earlier occasion if an accident had occurred.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Dr Samantha Farrar said: "This was a tragic case where the actions of one farm worker ultimately left his employer dead.
"I cannot stress enough the importance of watching out for other people and keeping speed down when driving tractors, especially when visibility is restricted."
The announcement comes after the launch of a Safety and Health Awareness Day by the HSE, which was held yesterday (February 17th).
