Disabled teenager awarded GBP 5.6m injury compensation

A girl who was left disabled after being starved of oxygen at birth has been awarded GBP 5.6 million in injury compensation.

Alice Joyce, 13, has cerebral palsy and delayed mental development as a result of her birth at Wycombe General Hospital in 1996, meaning that she is completely dependent on others for her care.

Her mother had delivered her previous child with a caesarean section but had not been warned of the danger of the rupture of the womb if she had a normal delivery, the High Court was told.

The GBP 5.6 million injury compensation will be used to provide Alice with the 24-hour care she needs, as well as to build a new hydrotherapy pool at her home.

It follows news that a community enforcement officer has been given GBP 2,000 in injury compensation after being made to wear ill-fitting body armour which caused shoulder problems.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19590402-ADNFCR
