A delivery driver has received GBP 7,000 in injury compensation after his hand was crushed by a faulty van door.
David McCulloch was delivering bread buns to the Burger King in Newmarket for his employer, 3663 Limited, when the van door slammed shut on his hand.
Staff at the restaurant were unable to get the door open and eventually the fire service had to use specialist cutting equipment to free him, leaving him with a broken index finger.
"My hand has healed well, but I had to miss out on seven weeks’ work," he commented.
"I’m just glad that my injuries weren’t worse. As a driver I rely on my hands to earn a living."
The incident follows news that engineering firm TC Industries of Europe has been fined GBP 5,000 after a worker lost a finger and had another badly crushed while working with a pick and place unit at the company’s plant near Saltburn.
