The family of a man who was crushed to death by a bale of scrap metal are seeking compensation for their loss.
Delivery driver Adrian Turner, 50, died at the Sims Metal site, Newport Docks, on April 28th 2008.
The company was fined GBP 200,000 at Cardiff Crown Court earlier this week but Mr Turner’s family say this offers little comfort.
"We have been torn apart by Adrian’s death and wish that no other family has to endure the loss of a loved one in the manner we did," the South Wales Argus reports a statement from the family as saying.
The family were awarded GBP 5,000 to cover costs including that of Mr Turner’s funeral but are currently awaiting the outcome of a civil claims proceeding for compensation.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Sarah Baldwin-Jones warned scrap yards to ensure they enforce and obey strict health and safety regulations to avoid such occurrences in the future.
