The family of an Isle of Wight man who was killed in a mystery accident have been awarded a GBP 70,000 injury compensation payout from motor insurers.
Thomas Whittaker was run over by a passing car on the Bowcombe Road, near Carisbrooke, at 03:00 (BST) on August 14th, the Isle of Wight County Press reports.
It is believed that the father of four was lying down on the road at the time the accident occurred, in which he suffered multiple injuries.
"The cause of the accident remains a mystery effectively; all we know is that, for some reason, the deceased was lying in the road," the paper reports the family’s barrister as saying to Mrs Justice Sharp at London’s High Court.
It was recently reported in the Richmond and Twickenham Times that a Hampton woman hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing has been awarded an undisclosed but "substantial" injury compensation sum.
