GBP 350k payout after doctors fail to spot cancer

The father of a woman who died from cancer after being repeatedly sent home by a hospital has been awarded GBP 350,000 in injury compensation.

Lavinia Bletchly, who was 23 at the time, was told by one consultant that her illness was a figment of her imagination, while another told the mother of two that she needed psychiatric help.

In March 2005, she was given a CT scan that revealed an extensive malignant tumour spreading from her bowel to her stomach.

Ms Bletchly died just over two weeks later from malignant non-Hodgkin lymphoma and peritonitis.

Her father Arthur has been fighting since her death for injury compensation, which will help him to look after her children.

"Since July last year we have been in a dog fight to sort out how much compensation her two little kids should have, so today is a good day," he commented.

It follows reports in the Chorley Guardian that a teenager who was left paralysed after spinal surgery is to be awarded millions of pounds in injury compensation.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19693628-ADNFCR
