A honeymooning couple from Norwich are launching an injury compensation claim against their tour operator after one of them fell ill.
Frances and Beverley Mayes had booked their dream holiday in the Dominican Republic through a five-star package offered by First Choice, the Norwich Evening News reports.
However, ten days into their break Mr Mayes became ill and was forced to travel for five hours by taxi to the nearest hospital, where he suffered from amoebic dysentery for more than a week.
"What annoyed me most is that it can all be put down to food hygiene and it had all happened before – but they didn’t do anything about it," Mr Mayes told the paper.
Four other couples in the hotel had suffered from similar ailments and they agreed to band together to seek injury compensation from their tour operators.
The case follows news that a couple are looking for injury compensation after being subjected to a horrific knife attack while on holiday in Margarita.
