Businesses have been reminded not to ignore health and safety improvement notices after a dental laboratory in Greater Manchester was ordered to pay £4,000 due to its unclean premises.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Matt Greenly originally visited Rossford Dental Laboratory in Swinton in March last year and found the premises to be so unclean that they were a threat to workers health.
He commented: "Improvement notices should act as a wake-up call for companies to improve their health and safety procedures, for their own and their employees benefit.
"Unfortunately, in this case, Rossford appears to have ignored the warning and carried on as normal."
He went on to say that the difficult economic climate is no reason for companies to ignore health and safety regulations, saying that although the body would try to be understanding, improvement notice deadlines should not be ignored.
Last month, the HSE urged employers to take correct precautions in the workplace when their staff work at height, after a farm employee sustained serious injuries when he fell nearly five metres through a roof he was working on.
