A teaching assistant has received GBP 10,000 in injury compensation after she was badly bruised while protecting children from a falling wall frame.
Julie Belcher, 49, took hold of a bar from the faulty frame at Hartlebury Church of England Primary School in October 2007 to protect a group of pupils.
It landed on her thighs, causing severe bruising and swelling, as well as whiplash to her head and shoulders that forced her to take seven weeks off work.
Ms Belcher’s left thigh has still not fully recovered and retains a lump that is still visible through her clothing, which may require plastic surgery in future.
"I had six young children pulling out the equipment with me, who would have died if it had fallen on them," she commented.
It follows reports in the Burton Mail that a man who suffered brain damage in a car crash is in line for a GBP 1 million injury compensation payout.
