The father of a girl who tripped and hurt herself on a Basildon pavement is seeking injury compensation from the local authority.
Bailey Smart, five, fell on a cracked pavement in East Mayne and was subsequently taken to hospital where she was given painkillers for a black eye and cuts, the Echo News reports.
"She was talking to her brother Alfie when she caught her foot in this huge crack. She came down very hard on her face," her father Ashley told the paper.
"It left her very shaken up. It was a dreadful experience for her."
He is now seeking injury compensation from Essex County Council, which he claims has taken no action to repair the pavement and prevent the possibility of the accident happening to somebody else.
It follows reports in the Hull Daily Mail that a man from North Ferriby has received a GBP 18,000 injury compensation payout after tripping over outside a chip shop.
