An accident victim who was struck by a van while under the influence of alcohol is seeking more than GBP 1 million in injury compensation.
Marc Preston, who was 18 at the time of the incident, had been drinking beer and whisky before he was hit by a Transit van as he crossed Bitton Park Road in Teignmouth, the Herald Express reports.
He suffered severe head and brain injuries that badly affected his cognitive faculties, leading to personality disorder and the need for supervision and care for the rest of his life.
The insurers have accepted 50 per cent liability in Mr Preston’s injury compensation case and a judge has sanctioned a GBP 100,000 payment until the full amount of his damages can be decided.
It follows reports in the Sunderland Echo that a truck driver left with long-term injuries after a road accident has been awarded GBP 86,000 in injury compensation.
