Man injured in accident at work 'can keep GBP 580k payout'

A man who was severely injured in an accident at work has been told that he will receive the full GBP 580,000 injuries compensation awarded to him last year.

Stephen John Dalling, of Middleton Street in St Thomas, Swansea, was dismantling a disused factory in Fforestfach when the incident took place in March 2005.

He fell some 15 ft onto the concrete floor below, sustaining a fractured skull and damage to his back.

The 31-year-old successfully sued his employer, R J Heale & Coof Bridgend, of Court Road, Bridgend, for GBP 580,000 last March, but the firm appealed because they felt they were also paying out for a second fall Mr Dalling had while drunk in 2008.

Lady Justice Smith rejected the appeal and said the second accident was "causally connected" to the head injuries Mr Dalling suffered in 2005.

CFR Flat Roofing was recently fined GBP 5,985 after it was found to be putting its employees at risk of accidents at work, such as falls from height.
