New police lights 'may lead to more accidents'

A police officer has claimed that the new strobe lights fitted to police cars are so bright that they could blind other road users, which may cause more accidents and lead to a greater number of car crash injury claims.

The officer, who regularly writes a blog under the name Inspector Gadget, said the new flashing lights on the roofs of service vehicles could "disorientate" other drivers.

He described the new police vehicles as "cheap family cars" and revealed that officials in control of procurement of new force cars had "forgotten to talk to patrol officers first".

The blogger added that the cars were not fit for police work and explained that he had witnessed the bright lights causing havoc on UK roads.

He wrote: "The new red and blue strobes on the roof of the vehicles are so bright that they disorientate drivers on the motorway who are trying to pass an accident scene at night, and create a second accident right on top of the original one."
