A 55-year-old refuse collector from Stevenage has been awarded GBP 57,000 in injury compensation after injuring his shoulder while collecting rubbish for recycling.
Alan Shambrook was employed by Stevenage Borough Council when he tripped on a raised paving slab four years ago, falling painfully onto his knee, shoulder and elbow, the Comet reports.
His injury required two operations and forced him to take 15 months off work, while he has also been left unable to lift heavy objects and pursue his hobbies.
"My wife has been left to lift her disabled mother on her own, I am unable to take my grandson to our regular swimming sessions, and I have had to give up golf," he told the paper.
Herefordshire County Council has admitted liability for the incident and has paid Mr Shambrook GBP 57,000 in injury compensation.
It follows reports in This Is Gloucestershire that Cheltenham Borough Council has paid out GBP 3,000 in injury compensation to a gardener who punctured his lung falling off a ride-on lawnmower.
