A rugby player from Swansea has received GBP 1,500 in injury compensation after his jaw was broken during a match.
Richard Mark Williams, who plays for Bonymaen, was attacked during a game with Pontypool in December last year, the South Wales Evening Post reports.
A court heard that opponent Samual Pailor grabbed Mr Williams by his shirt and punched him in the face following a disagreement on the pitch.
Mr Williams was taken to hospital and treated for a displaced fracture to his jaw, which also left him with a slight overbite and the need to wear orthodontic brackets.
Meanwhile, his attacker was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work and to pay Mr Williams GBP 1,500 in injury compensation, as well as GBP 500 towards his court costs.
It follows reports in the Shields Gazette that a rugby coach has been ordered to pay GBP 700 following an assault on his girlfriend.
