Slip on ice prompts injury compensation claim

A grandmother in Walthamstow is seeking injury compensation from her local authority after slipping on an ungritted icy road.

Marianne Jones, 55, was walking to the doctor’s surgery on Penrhyn Avenue when she slipped on black ice, causing concussion and a cut to her head, the Waltham Forest Guardian reports.

She is still feeling the effects of the accident, which happened shortly before Christmas and is pursuing an injury compensation claim against Waltham Forest Council.

"The doctor said the symptoms can last a while, I still feel dizzy, I don’t want to wash my hair because if I put my head down I feel giddy," she told the paper.

"It is very bad, lots of people use the roads near the doctor’s surgery."

Road campaign group recently warned that motorists could soon be claiming compensation from their local councils if they fail to properly maintain roads during the freezing weather.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19543312-ADNFCR
