The surgeon that responsible for mistakenly removing the entire testicle of a patient at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury is facing medical negligence charges.
Dr Suliman Al Hourani is accused of misconduct after he removed the whole right testicle of his patient when he should have just been removing some cysts.
Sarah Prichard, counsel for the General Medical Council, which is carrying out the investigation, said that the removal had occurred in an instant when the nurses back was turned.
She added: "Such was the level of concern they immediately realised it could be a serious medical incident and took steps to complete the relevant documentation."
Earlier this month, the family of an 11-year-old that suffered brain damage as a result of alleged errors at two NHS hospital trusts began injury compensation proceedings, reported the Richmond and Twickenham Times.
The family of Hannah Collard-Gray are seeking GBP 300,000 in compensation for what it claims were a series of errors during her birth and operation at Kingston Hospital NHS Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust.
