A water services company and its sub-contractor have been fined a total of GBP 17,500 after an employee was involved in an accident at work that saw him fall through the roof of a pumping station.
Technician Matthew Morgan, fractured a vertebra in his back when he fell through an unmarked fragile roof light.
He was taking a reading from a rain gauge on top of the station in Willingham, near Cambridge, when the accident happened.
Mr Morgan was subcontracted to Anglian Water Services but was employed by IETG Ltd of Leeds.
The water company was fined GBP 16,000 and ordered to pay over GBP 9,000 in costs, whereas IETG was fined GBP 1,500 and ordered to pay GBP 3,219 in costs.
Earlier this month, Robert Peter Mackie was fined GBP 15,000 over another accident at work.
One of his employees broke both of his legs when he fell from a roof of a potato store that he was fixing.
