It is easy to prevent a work injury as long as companies take precautions to ensure staff are not placed in harm’s way, one sector expert has pointed out.
Faye Wingfield, an investigating Health and Safety Executive inspector, said that companies often fail to follow basic safety processes and staff are endlessly being injured and even killed in accidents at work.
She pointed out that firms which operate machinery are required to identify the risks associated with it and establish what needs to be put in place so that work can be carried out safely.
"Safe systems of work should be devised and implemented, including the provision of appropriate worker training, supervision and personal protective equipment," Ms Wingfield said.
Meanwhile, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health is hosting its annual symposium between September 5th and 7th at the Nottingham Belfry Hotel, where attendees will be shown how to manage workplace dangers and prevent employees from suffering a work injury.
