A nine-year-old boy has been awarded what is thought to be a record injury compensation payout after being involved in a car accident.
Callum Cross sustained severe spinal and brain injuries after his father accidentally drove over him in a Bedfordshire car park during a family day out.
He will now need constant care and is unlikely to ever recover sufficiently to earn a living or lead a normal life.
Mr Cross’s insurers admitted liability at an early stage and Callum’s solicitor says the total injury compensation figure stands at £8.1 million, believed to be the largest ever paid out for an injury to the spinal cord.
The presiding judge, Mrs Justice Swift, paid tribute to the "patience, forbearance and hard work" of the boy’s family.
Recently Newsquest reported that an undisclosed seven-figure compensation sum had been awarded to a 62-year-old woman.
The claimant had suffered a severe stroke following a car crash.
